Is Photoshop advertising damaging society?


Photoshop is a system that is considered to be one of the main things to do for photo editing. This system allows people to manipulate, crop, resize, color and correct any “mistake” that digital photos could have. Years ago the software was particularly popular amongst professional photographers and graphic designers. Although nowadays, it is very common for a lot of people to use Photoshop in their pictures, especially in the millennial generation. It has become very common for people to use it to improve their pictures and make a reality something that is not. Photoshop has become so popular that is not even necessary to be a professional to do this, a lot of popular apps have this option when posting new pictures.

With the system and new apps of Photoshop in the design industry, it has become very easy for the media not to keep it real. This could have different consequences for society. For example, Photoshop in today's society has allowed advertisers to give cover models a little superficial face and tuck or body sculpting where it doesn’t really exist. These false images
s can affect the way society starts to see beauty in an unrealistic way, impacting self-esteem and their own body image.


In conclusion, the more women and girls watch television or look at magazines full of unattainable and idealize images of women created by “photoshopping”, the more anxious and insecure about their appearance they become. The pressure to attain the “perfect body” has women now spending millions of dollars a year on unnecessary plastic surgery and harming their bodies by becoming anorexic or bulimic. Photoshop has become so common in todays society that is hard to see and realize how much is affecting peoples perspective of their own body. Especially teenagers’ girls that a lot of them are developing an eating and psychological disorder thinking that they are in overweight when really they are not. There have been some campaigns fighting against Photoshop advertising.
